Now that there were two and a half new babies at Gage's house, he had decided it was about time he move out and get his own place. Unfortunately, Gage had no money, and there was no way his parents would buy him his own house. So he was forced to accept an unpleasant truth; he had to get a job.

Gage wasn't really the working type. And unfortunately, he had a reputation the proceeded him, and there were very few places that was willing to hire him. He figured he could probably get his dad to pull some strings and get him a job in Dian, but he didn't want to ask his parents for help. He would only be willing to do that as a last resort.

There was one guy he knew that might give him a chance. Roburt Bradley had gone from being his girlfriend's father, to the ex-husband of his dad's secret lover, to his aunt's boyfriend...thing. So yeah. They knew each other. So Gage flew himself to Annerb and knocked on the door of Roburt's house.

Roburt was making himself lunch when he heard a knock at the door. He left the kitchen and headed to the front door and opened it see...Gage? "Hello Gage," he said. "Can I...help you?"

"You can, actually," Gage replied without a bit of hesitation or uncertainty. He didn't feel strange at all talking with Roburt. "I heard your business is doing really good, and that you're looking for some extra workers."

"Well yeah," Roburt replied. "Are you thinking about working for me?" He was pretty surprised, especially because of who this kid was, but if he wanted to work Roburt would give him a job. He'd hire anybody once.

"Well, yeah," Gage replied with a shrug. Roburt already seemed like he was willing to consider hiring him. This was easier than Gage thought it would be. He thought he'd have to do some serious lying and convincing to get Roburt to hire him.

"Alright," Roburt replied. "You can start today, I'm on my lunch break, but once I'm done we're headin' over to the farm." He stood to the side, "Come inside, you want anything?"

Wow. "You're the first clio to give me a chance," Gage commented casually, accepting Roburt's invitation to come in. "The manager at Casa Nova's all but laughed in my face when I asked them for a job." Sometimes it really pissed Gage off how clio prejudged him. Whatever.

He looked around. "Hey, this is a pretty nice house you got."

"Thanks," Roburt replied. "I try to keep it nice." He went into the kitchen, Gage followed him. He stood behind the kitchen island thingy, finished making his sammich then slid the sammich things towards Gage. "You want a sandwich?"

"Nah," Gage replied, taking a seat in the kitchen. He didn't know why he had come in. He could've just waited around till Roburt was done with his lunch break and then gone with him. "So..." he said, trying to think of something they could talk about. "You like my aunt, huh?"

"Hm?" Roburt asked with food in his mouth, he swallowed then said, "Yeah, your Aunt Raina, we've grown pretty fond of each other." He wasn't going to mention what happened two weeks ago, nor was he going to mention what she had gone through that got her like the way she was. (I figured this probably happened after the RP in Earalas.)

"Well...good luck with that," Gage couldn't help but say. He had, of course, known Aunt Raina his whole life, and knew how scared she was of men. Hell, she was even nervous around him, and he was only sixteen.

He laughed a little. "If you guys end up together," he said, "that'll make family functions interesting."

Oh Gage, you tactless boy, you.

Roburt raised his eyebrows at Gage, he sighed then finished his sandwich. "Well I'm all ready," he said. "Are you ready?"

"Born ready," Gage replied, hopping out of his seat. He followed Roburt out of the house.

As they walked, they were once again plunged into silence. It wasn't necessarily an uncomfortable silence, but Gage was trying to be social. "So," he said again, indicating that he was about to bring up another awkward subject. "Is it true that you punched my dad in the face?"

What? He was curious. xD

"Yes," Roburt replied, feeling a little irritated. He didn't like thinking about that. "Yes I did." They walked down the driveway and turned to start walking down the road. "The farm isn't too far away up there," he said, while pointing in the direction they were walking.

Gage smirked a little bit. It was funny to think that he'd be working for a guy who punched his dad in the face. He wouldn't have thought it was funny normally, but the fact was, his dad had kinda deserved it. After all, he had stolen Roburt's wife.

"I can see that," Gage replied to the farm statement. He wasn't interested in talking about that. "So how's Lily doing?"

"Lily is fine," Roburt replied. "Found herself a nice guy." Much better than you. "She's been really happy." He knew that Gage was dating Christine now, so he thought to ask about her, "How's Christine?"

"Nicer than me?" Gage asked, totally reading the tone of Roburt's voice. "Bet you're happy about that."

He didn't wait for Roburt to reply to that before going on. "Christine is good," he replied. "We have a lot of fun together." Another reason he wanted a job was so that he could treat Christine a little better. Pay for her when they went out on dates and all that crap. Maybe even buy her some presents.

Roburt would have probably said something like, 'yeah, nicer than you and I am happy about that' but Gage started talking again before he could. So instead he said, "Well that's good...I'm glad." They continued walking a little bit more until they came upon the farm. There were men and women baling hay, others were shoveling poop, and Keiran was even there. He was carrying a big bucket of water for the cows. Keiran gave Gage a weird look after he waved at his dad, but kept working.

"Well," Roburt said, putting an arm around Gage and pushing him forward. "Let's get you busy."

"What should I do?" Gage asked. He already decided that he was not going to be shoveling any cow shit, so he hoped Roburt wouldn't ask. Otherwise Gage would have to refuse his first task and THAT wouldn't make a very good impression. "Bail hay or something?"

"Well we're a little short today on hay balers," Roburt replied. "Why don't you go help them out?"

"Sounds good," Gage replied. He hadn't expected to get to work so soon, but hey, at least he was getting paid. He walked over to the big stacks of hay. As he did he passed Keiran, whom Gage nodded to and greeted with a brief, "Sup."

He picked up a big thing of hay and tossed it onto this big metal cart thing that would later be driven away by Dians. The cubes of hay were heavier then they looked, but Gage was strong, so he could do it.

Roburt nodded in approval when Gage went straight to work. Then he went away to do other things.

Keiran was really surprised that Gage showed up with his father, and then started working. He shrugged and kept working. After he finished feeding the cows and pigs, he went to help out with hay.

"So I see my Dad gave you a job," Kerian said to Gage when he got there. "To be honest, I'm surprised you wanted to work."

After about his fourth bale of hay, the work was starting to get a little more difficult. He wiped some sweat off his forehead and stopped for a second to pull his shirt off to at least cool down a little. It was hot out today. Every day better not be this hot.

Gage turned around when Keiran spoke. "Oh, well you see, I got Christine pregnant so now I need a job to support her and the baby," he said with a totally straight face. He had, of course, NOT gotten Christine pregnant, but he wanted to see how Keiran would react.

Keiran stared at Gage with huge eyes, was he serious? He looked serious. Holy shit! First Julie, then Keegan, now Christine? This wasn't good, especially since Christine would make the worst mother ever.

"Holy crap," he said. "Mr. Flint let you live?"

Gage shook his head in an amused sort of way. "I was kidding, Keiran," he told him, as if Keiran should have somehow known that. Then he lied again, this time not for shock value, but for Christine's sake. "We haven't even had sex yet." And he didn't plan on admitting that that one was a lie.

He hoisted another bale of hay onto the cart. "This isn't as easy as I thought it'd be," he sighed. Sure, it was easy, mindless work, but it was also physical labor, and Gage was a lazy guy.
