first rp of a new world... sorta [GAGE]

Addisyn sat in the corner of Casa Nova's, in front of the fireplace. She had out a favorite book and was sipping a hot chocolate. She was trying to push out of her mind the excitement of becoming Overloridian to a whole Eilemaiden. The old Overloridian of Adhbhar, Rylan, had gotten a very serious form of cancer called Bik a few years ago and never got over it. As time went by it spread and it was now in it's last stages. He had less than a week left, something that made Addisyn sad and anxious at the same time.

Sighing, she set aside the book and gazed into the fire. She couldn't concentrate. Auri, in the form of a spectacular blue butterfly, hovered above her. "But aren't you curious," he pressed, "to know what we're going to settle as? I think we're lucky, we get to know around when we're going to settle."

Addisyn shrugged and took another sip of cocoa.

Gage walked into Casa Nova's and looked at the menus hanging up. He frowned. Everything here was so expensive. He should've just gone to the Tavern; drinks there were cheaper and alcoholic. Realizing he didn't have enough money to buy anything he wanted, he sighed and took a glance around Casa Nova's before turning to leave.

Wait, double-take. His little sister Addie was here. He knew she had a pretty steep allowance (compared to him anyways; he was always getting his taken away for getting in trouble) and probably had some cash on her. He walked up behind her quietly.

"Hey Addie," he said, grabbing her shoulders with the intention of startling her. "How's my favorite sister?"

Addisyn jumped a little as her stupid brother grabbed her. "Gage!" she cried as she spilled some hot chocolate on her new jeans. She scowled at him as she grabbed a handful of napkins and then started cleaning up his mess.

She rolled her eyes, "What do you want, Gage?" she said in a half irritated, half endearing sorta way. He probably wanted some money, he was always broke.

Ah, she knew him well. He smiled and sat down across from her. "Would Miss Future Overloridian spare some change for her poor older brother? I'll pay you back," he asked, not actually planning on ever paying her back. It's not like she would miss it. Soon enough little Addie was gonna be an Overloridan and have more money than she'd ever know what to do with. Not to mention power over and entire country. And respect from hundreds of clio. And complete security and stability for the rest of her life. (What? Jealous? Noooo.)

"Oh, right, just like the last hundred times you paid me back, right?" she said sarcastically. Shaking her head, Addisyn reached into the small bag she carried with her. She pulled out around ten dollars of AD(amelia dollars) and handed them to him.

"Just remember, I know where you live," she said, kiddingly. "But really, what are you doing here anyway, Gage? I thought you'd be at the Tavern or something. And aren't you supposed to be grounded, anyway?"

Gage was always getting grounded for everything. Her said he behaved just like their mom when she was younger. Addisyn could see that, very, very clearly. Her mother was crazy.

"Hold that thought," Gage replied, grabbing the ten AD without thanking her and getting up. He went and bought himself an iced mocha and a blueberry muffin and came back and sat down.

"Yeah, I'm supposed to be grounded," he replied, voice slightly muffled by the large bite of muffin he'd just taken. "But one of the advantages of being Cuir is the ability to sneak out your third story bedroom window. And I'm less likely to run into people I don't want to see here than at the Tavern, so..."

He trailed off, taking another bite of muffin.

Addisyn shook her head in an amused way. "You'll never change," she laughed. As Gage shoved muffin in his mouth Addisyn reached over and quickly grabbed a piece of it.

She smiled she popped it into her mouth, mocking her brother with her eyes.

"Hey," Gage said, trace amounts of irritation in his voice. He left it at that, though, because he had after all bought the muffin with her money.

"I wish I could just move out like you'll get to do soon," he commented, sighing. He shot her a glare as if it were her fault she got to be an Overloridian and leave home and automatically have a job and a place to live.

Addisyn rolled her eyes. She knew not to take his glare personally. It wasn't her fault that she was getting to be Overloridian.

"You should totally move in with me," she said to him. "Tell dad you want to help me get settled." Haha, it would be funny. A Cuir living in a mostly underground Eilemaiden.

"Yeah, because I totally want to live in a cave," Gage said sarcastically, using the offensive term for Adhbhar. "Fuck that. I should just move in with Aunt Willow and Uncle Lorrik up in Cuir. Not that they'd let me. But given the choice..."

He took a drink of his iced mocha.

Her brother was such a jerk. "Why do I even bother?" Addisyn wondered out loud, staring back into the fire with a glare. Because you're a good person? Auri offered, now in the form of a mouse on her shoulder.

Erph, she grunted lightly, not convinced.

Gage laughed. "Geez, I was kidding," he said lightly. "No need to get so pissed off. Hey--" he flicked her shoulder. In a polite voice that didn't quite suit him, he said, "Thank you, dear sister. Though while I appreciate your offer I'm going to have to politely decline."

The effect of his polite tone was ruined by the smirk he wore. "Better?" he asked with a slight mock in his voice.

Addisyn rolled her eyes, but was smiling again. "Much," she said, taking a sip of her cooling cocoa. "So, what are you planning on doing today, now that you're free from prison?"

She wished she could have her Eilemaiden all ready that way she could sneak out of the house too, not that she got in trouble often. It would just be cool to try. For whatever reason, Addisyn kind of looked up to her brother, all though she would never completely follow him.

Gage shrugged. "Nothing," he replied breezily. "I don't plan on doing anything. I'm just gonna see what happens." He leaned forward and rested his chin in the palm of his hand. "Most likely I'm going to get in more trouble though. That's usually what happens."

"What about you?" he asked. "Just hanging out, waiting for that Overloridian to kick it?"

Addisyn gave him an 'are you serious' face before playfully smacking him upside the head. "No I am not 'waiting for him to kick it' she said disapprovingly.

"I am!" Auri squeaked from his spot on Isy's shoulder. Addisyn rolled her eyes, her dæmon was so stupid. She shifted her shoulders, trying to knock him off but he just became a canary and fluttered to sit on top of the fireplace mantle. He looked at her in a very 'ha ha' sorta way.

"See, if I settle you won't be able to do that anymore," she said, sticking her tongue out at him.

"Unless he turns into a canary when you settle," Gage pointed out. He absent-mindedly patted Pele on the head, since she was just sitting there not doing anything. "Doubt it though. You'll probably be some type of dog like everyone else is."

Their family had a dog, a wolf, a fox, he himself had a dingo...Not to mention their pet dogs.

Addisyn didn't really like dogs that much, so she hoped not. "A canary wouldn't be too bad," she said, tilting her head at Auri. "The yellow is really pretty at least."

"It'll be weird though, won't it? I'm going to have to leave Dian, Gage," Addisyn said, a trace of worry in her voice. "What if I'm bad at it? What if they hate me?"

"I don't think you'll be bad at it," Gage assured her, actually sounding sincere. "Fate chose you, right? You wouldn't've been chosen if you were bad at it. And as for everyone hating you; well that's just stupid. I'm the one everyone hates, remember?" He smiled. "But if anyone does hate you, I'll kick their ass for you."

Addisyn smiled at his reassurances, though she was still a little worried. How could someone run a whole freaking Eilemaiden at the age of 15?! She made a note to ask her father how it was done when she got home.

She shrugged, "Yeah, I guess. And thanks," she added to his last statement. "I've just never been in charge of anything this big you know?" The most responsibility she'd ever had was taking care of her four year old brother.

"Oh, you'll be fine!" Gage said dismissively. "I mean, Dad did it, and he didn't even know he was supposed to be the Overloridian until like, that day. You've had practically your whole life to prepare."

He finished his iced mocha and sucked empty air through the straw. "Now me on the other hand, I'd be terrible at it. Can you picture me as an Overloridian? Abusing my power left and right, starting wars for no reason. At least take comfort in the fact that you'll be better than that."

Addisyn had to laugh, "This is true," she said, a big smile on her face. "But how am I to know that you're not going to tie me up and take over, anyway?" she asked, eying him suspiciously.

"Not a bad idea," Gage replied thoughtfully. "Except you'll probably have like ten huge bodyguards with you 24/7. Just don't sleep with any of them though--that's how the last one died. The one before the one that's dying now."

He paused. "Wow, Adhbhar goes through 'em pretty fast," he commented. "Maybe the job is cursed."

Addisyn's eyes grew wide. "Do you really think so?" she asked him, a little scared. She wasn't sure if she believed in curses or ghosts but what if?

Hm, should he be a nice older brother and tell her he was obviously kidding, or be a jerk and press the issue?

"Well, let's look at the facts," he said knowledgably. "Three Overloridians back, one was assassinated. He was in his late twenties. Then the next one dies at the tender age of sixteen. Now poor Rylan--he's like thirty-five--is on his death bed." Pause for effect. "I dunno. No other Eilemaiden's gone through that many in such a short amount of time. What do you think?"

Addisyn gulped. "But..." What he was saying was all true, and that was really creepy. "You don't think I'm going to die, do you?" she asked him, her eyes wider than normal.

"Maybe I should just say no, am I allowed to do that? They can find somebody else to be Overloridian."
